Miners claim volleyball crown
By STU MERRY

A No. 3 seed is the champion in District 10 volleyball. The Wilton-Wing Miners came out of the middle of the pack this past week in Garrison to claim the District 10 title, defeating Washburn 3-2 in a real barn-burner.
The Miners spotted Washburn a one game to none lead, 25-16, then fought back to knot the score 1-1 with a 25-22 win in game 2. Game 3 went to the Cardinals 25-19, but in the  fifth and deciding game, it was the Miners who would come out on top, winning 15-10.
It is the Miners’ first-ever district volleyball title.
Both the Miners and Cardinals advanced to this week’s regional tournament in Bismarck.
In the win-and-advance to regionals matches, Underwood subdued the Garrison-Max Troopers 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 25-14, 25-14).
Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky outlasted Center-Stanton by the same 3-1 count (28-26, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17).
