You might know them as the Mavericks, the Makoti Legion Baseball team. Most people around Makoti do.
But it is clear that their American Legion sponsor, Harold Erb and Coach Michael Grimwood, know them as “kids who could give their all when asked to do so.” They have both said so.
For Erb, it is not his first time at the mound. He has been part of the William Hanson American Legion Post 290 baseball scene for 24 years. That is when he first moved to Makoti.
He serves as commander of Post 290 and enjoys his connection to the program. Having stayed with it all these years, he certainly does think that baseball is good for kids and the community.
“Legion baseball provides a sporting event to be enjoyed all summer by all ages. The Legion strives to provide an opportunity for ball players to continue playing baseball during the summer. This allows for continued camaraderie, new friendships and development of on and off field life values,” Erb said.
