The Class A American Legion State tournament didn’t go well for the Makoti Mavericks. Coming in as the No.2 seed from the West, Makoti was hoping make a deep run in the tournament. But after two big losses the Mavericks were done.

On the first day the Mavericks pitched their ace, Austin Lee, against Casselton. That game was tough for Makoti because they struggled to hit the ball and committed a lot of errors.

The Mavericks committed eight miscues, recording just four hits. Meanwhile, Casselton was hitting well and executing.

Casselton recorded 12 hits and only committed two errors in the game. The scoring line doesn’t exactly show how close the game was without errors.

Lee only gave up four earned runs in the game and struck out seven batters. But five of Casselton’s runs came off errors. Those unearned runs, combined with a team batting average of .160, were hard to overcome and Makoti lost 9-0.

Makoti cut its errors in half the next game, but were still struggling from the plate, while the opponent, Velva, hit the ball well and executed.
