Key matches for Trooper netters A pair of district games this week will go a long way in determining how seeding will shake out come tournament time later this month. The Garrison-Max Troopers are 1-2 in the district, and with Washburn today (Thursday) and Wilton on Tuesday, Coach Jim Snustad said he hopes the record is 3-2 come next week. Right now, the district picture is cloudy as to who has the inside track for top seeds. "It looks like anybody can beat any other team on a give nnight," Snustad observed. "The district is quite open. Right now it looks like Washburn is leading the pack, but they have matches with Sheridan County, Underwood and us. If they lose two of those three and we win out, there could be a tie at 3-2 for first place in the district. Then it all depends on head to head and games won versus games lost. It will be real interesting to see how the district tournament plays out." This past weekend the Troopers found themselves in the championship match of the Garrison Invitational Tournament. But in the end it was the Turtle Lake-Mercer Trojans who came away with championship hardware, winning 25-21 and 25-10. Snustad said he thinks it was just a case or the team running out of gas after a long day on the court. "It is a long day when you start playing at 9 a.m. and finish up around 6," he said. This past Thursday the Troopers picked up a hard-fought district victory over Turtle Lake-Mercer, 3-2. The Troopers held a 2-1 lead but the persistent Trojans came back to knot the score at 2-2 with a 25-15 victory. It looked like the Troopers were on the ropes, but the Troop caught its collective breath and came alive in the final and deciding game to win 15-11.
