Junior Troop routs Cardinals
BY GARY ERICKSON
Dove season recently opened in North Dakota, but the junior high football team was hunting Cardinals when they traveled to Nedrose on Sept. 3.
The Troopers got the ball first and after the first two plays, it looked like they were the ones being hunted as the Cardinal defense stuffed two running plays for losses. But a 25 yard pass play from Treyson Iglehart to Matt Jochim on third and long got the Troop moving in the right direction. After a couple running plays, the Iglehart to Jochim connection struck again, this time it was a touchdown from 35 yards out and after the PAT the score was 8-0 Troopers.
The Trooper defense held and with just under six minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Iglehart found daylight around the right end and went 75 yards for another score.
The PAT made it 16-0 and the Troopers were riding the momentum train. That train kept gathering speed as the Cards turned the ball over on their next two possessions.
After the first turnover, the Troopers cashed in on a 17 yard Iglehart run.
Then, after the second turnover, Grady Crawford carried for 22 yards, moving the ball inside the red zone and Iglehart finished the drive with a three yard TD.
