The Troopers junior high football team bounced back from a lackluster effort in its previous game, playing one of its best overall games of the season as they knocked off the Central McLean Cougars in Underwood.

The Troopers opened the scoring in their second series after a short punt gave them the ball at the Cougar 45. A 30-yard pass from Jaaron Kamp to Nash Wimer moved the ball to the 15 and a couple plays later Kamp scored on a 1-yard run. A pass to Eddie Whitebear tacked on the conversion and the Troopers led 8-0 early in the second quarter.

The Cougars had a good return on the kickoff, followed by a long gain to the Trooper 21 but then the defense stiffened, turning the ball over on downs. On the next drive, Kamp connected with wideout Cain Foss on a 43-yard toss which eventually led to another 1-yard TD run by Kamp with only 24 seconds left in the half. The conversion failed but the Troopers had a 14-0 cushion at halftime.

The Cougars opened the second half at their 23 and quickly turned the ball over when Foss picked off a pass and returned it to the 21. The Troopers went for a quick score but the TD pass was called back due to a penalty. A busted play lost yardage and then a tipped pass was picked off by the Cougars.

But the Troopers got the ball right back when Riley Mautz picked off a pass and returned it to the Cougar 31. A couple plays later Mautz threaded his way through the Cougar defense for a 21-yard TD run to stretch the lead to 20-0.
