Boys improve, girls remain consistent
By STU MERRY
Things continue to look up for both the Garrison-Max boys and girls golf teams.
The boys team carded its lowest score of the year this past Thursday at Velva with a 353. The meet was an individual qualifier, and Evan Riemer just missed adding his name to the list headed to state by three strokes. Evan turned in a score of 82. The qualifying benchmark is 79. Other boys scores included: Tyler Jacobson – 87, Matt Wyrwas – 94, Dom Ruhland – 96, Brookes Reinholt – 97, Justin Hanson – 102.
Tuesday, the boys competed on their home course, finishing fourth in an eight-team field. The Troopers tallied a 368, while first place Rugby penciled in a 346. Individual scores for the Troopers were: Matt Wyrwas – 85, Tyler Jacobson – 89, Dom Ruhland – 95, Evan Riemer – 99, Justin Hanson – 105, Brookes Reinholt – 110. Matt came in fourth individually.
Coach Mark Harris remains optimistic that as the boys continue to improve, success is just around the corner. With regionals a week away, he thinks one or two golfers should have a good chance to qualify for state.
