Garrison opts out of sports co-op negotiations

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD

With a vote of six to two by the school board, Garrison has decided to not pursue a full co-op with Max School any longer.
The sports co-op was a large talking point at the Garrison School Board meeting on Thursday.
A letter was presented to Garrison Superintendent Nick Klemisch from the GHS volleyball and girls basketball polayers in favor of not pursuing the co-op.
This letter along withseveral emails from concerned parents and Max School wanting to shop around, a motion was made.
The motion read, “based on the email communication from Garrison patrons shared with the board and a letter submitted by a group of GHS students, I move to reject the most recent co-op offer from the Max School Board and withdraw any previous offer made by this board and allow the co-op negotiations to terminate.’
“You know I was one of the ones most in favor of it (co-op),” board member John Crawford said. “But I’m tired of arguing about it. Time to let it drop.”
As for football next year, Garrison is locked in with the NDHSAA to play by itself. The deadline was Sept. 15 to make any changes to next fall season.
