Garrison Golf Club to add shop

By STU MERRY

Another construction project will be undertaken at the Garrison Golf Course this summer. A new shop.

At their annual meeting this past Sunday, board members announced the project. The building will be 36x56 and will enable the club to work on equipment and be used to store equipment in the winter. Spencer Flath, outgoing president and outgoing board member, said the goal is to start in the next 30 days. A contractor will do the concrete work, but volunteer labor will be used to erect the building. The current, much smaller and older shop, will remain.

The new concrete parking lot, installed last year, has been an asset to the club, board members said. "It really has made a change," said Gerald Van Rooyen, board member. "It surely helps us and something that will make a difference."

An apron will be added to the parking lot, hopefully this spring, weather permitting. Schumaier Construction will complete the project. "We are on his list," Flath said.

Flath said other amenities need to be done to fully complete the parking lot project, such as landscaping. Those will be done this year. Other projects completed this past year include new yardage signs for the holes.
