Garrison girl hoopsters hold off Hazen

Garrison squandered a double-digit lead in the second half, but the Troopers recovered for a 48-46 victory over Hazen, Dec. 10, in Hazen.
The Troopers, who were ranked 10th in the latest State Class B Girls’ Basketball Poll, improved to 2-0, while Hazen fell to 0-2. Garrison went 2-1 and finished as the runner-up in the Nedrose Invitational Tournament over the weekend (Dec. 12-14), and the Troopers defeated New England, 64-51, Dec. 16. Their record now stands at 5-1 on the season.
Back-to-back three-pointers by McCall Chase and Addyson Iglehart capped a 10-2 run by Garrison that gave the Troopers an 11-5 lead with three and a half minutes left in the first quarter, and even though Garrison would not score again in the period, Hazen would struggle against the Troopers’ defensive pressure, and the Bison were able to score just two free throws before the quarter ended with Garrison leading, 11-7.
