G-M Troopers ready to rumble

By STU MERRY
The countdown to kickoff is getting closer by the day. The season opens Friday Aug. 25 as the Garrison-Max Troopers travel to Berthold to take on Lewis & Clark-Berthold.
The Troop has a new signal caller. Noah Sloka graduated and now plays for the University of Jamestown. Stepping up is senior Nashton Wimer.
It’s a new season, and the coaching staff is optimistic the Troopers will improve on their 1-7 record from last year.
Coach Jason Olson said the goal on offense will be to control the ball and time of possession.
An asset this year will be the offensive and defensive lines, the coach said.
Joining Wimer will be veterans Riley Mautz at linebacker and running back, and Cain Foss at wide out and corner back.
Mautz, a senior, was an a first-team all region player last year. He led the team in rushing with more than 330 yards. Riley scored three times and caught five passes.
