The tradition continues. For the 13th consecutive year, the Garrison-Max girls golf team is headed to state. The girls did it, earning third place at this past Friday’s Region 4 Tournament in Velva. Taking top honors was the team from Rugby. Central McLean (Underwood and Turtle Lake-Mercer) placed second.
Senior leadership led the way for the Troopers. Brittny Riemer placed second behind Central McLean’s Sammi Cottingham. Brittny carded a 92, compared to Sammi’s 86. The Troopers’ other senior, Caitlin Wilcox, turned in a 96, good for sixth overall.
While Brittny and Caitlin have been strong all season, according to Coach Randy Belisle, it was the younger golfers who did their part to ensure the team’s state string continued.
“For this particular meet, I would most definitely say that Robin Schenfisch really deserves some extra credit,” Belisle said.
“Without an outstanding score like hers to bolster our consistent and steady play from Brittny and Caitlin and our other ladies, we would not have placed and advanced this year. She did an amazing job on a course she’s never played.”
