It’s six to make four. The post-season is here. The District 10 Boys’ Basketball Tournament gets underway Friday in Garrison with six teams vying for four spots at regionals.
The three-day tournament opens with #4 Garrison tangling with #5 Max at 6 p.m. At 7:30, or 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, #3 Washburn goes up against #6 Underwood. No. 1 Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky and No. 2 Wilton-Wing each have first round byes.
District 10 is down to six teams this year following the dissolving of the McClusky and Goodrich co-op, which formed Sheridan County. The girls’ basketball co-op dissolves at the end of this year.
Saturday action will see the Garrison-Max winner face Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky at 6 p.m. Next will have the Washburn-Underwood winner square off against Wilton-Wing at 7:30.
Action resumes Monday at 4:30 with the Game 3 loser and Game 2 loser meeting in a loser-out contest. At 6 p.m. Monday, the Game 4 loser will meet the loser of Game 1. The championship game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Awards and trophies will be presented following the championship game. The top four teams will advance to Region 5 Tournament.
Doors will open one hour prior to the first game of the day. Game times are approximate and will start 20 minuets following the previous games.
Garrison
Like all the other teams in the district, it’s a whole new season for the Garrison Troopers. After three pretty impressive games, the Troop ran into three high-powered teams in Beulah, Center-Stanton and Hazen. All three were losses. Coach Jason Mattheis said in spite of the losses the Troopers played well for most of those contests.
