In chilly 20-degree weather, the Garrison and Max-South Prairie cross country teams competed at the state meet on Saturday in Cooperstown.
Garrison
Garrison eight grader August Majeres finished in 138th place out of 243 total runners. He ran a 5K in 20:50. Other runners were Javier Parlier at 26:02, Gavin Ruud with 27:02 and Jetah Belzer with 24:42.
“State in Cooperstown was cold. I think it was only 26 degrees which is the coldest weather the kids have ever ran in this season. Coach Ruud and I knew they would do great because it seemed like any time we had ‘bad’ weather they always did better,” Garrison Head Coach Carrie Essler said. “All the kids (ran personal best) on their 5k times. Before the race I told them that afterwards I want them to think back and know they gave it their all.”
Max-South Prairie
Max-South Prairie boys finished 17 out of 47 teams.
The girls finished 20 out of 27 teams.
“Overall I think this was a very successful season for the Max-South Prairie Cross Country Team,” Max-South Prairie Head Coach Olsen Zerr said. “So both teams performed well at state.”
