Cossacks fall at regions

The Max-Garrison Cossacks baseball team gave it a valiant try, but came up short in its bid to land a spot in the state high school baseball tournament. That honor, from Region 6, went to the Minot Ryan Lions.
After being delayed a couple of days, the tournament got underway May 22 at Jack Hoeven Park in Minot. The Cossacks, No. 3 seed, meant business in the opener, pounding No. 6 Sawyer 27-2. That set the table for a match-up against Minot Ryan. Though the Cossacks fought hard, the boys in blue came out on the short end of a 6-2 score. Ryan scored two runs in each of the first three innings, while the Cossacks pushed across a pair of runs in their half of the fifth. M-G fielders committed three errors. Reid Groninger suffered the setback.
