Comets 2 OT winner at county

Troop takes sixth, Max seventh, W/S eighth

It took two overtimes, but Underwood has bragging rights to McLean County, at least for this year, as the Comets edged Washburn 50-48 in the championship game of the McLean County Girls’ Tournament in Wilton this past Saturday.

The Comets led after the first three quarter breaks, but the Cards overcame a five-point deficit to knot the score at 43 after regulation. Each team scored once in the first overtime, but it was the Comets who tallied five in the second OT to take home the crown.

In another squeaker, Turtle Lake-Mercer nipped Minot’s Our Redeemers 53-52. Wilton had an easy time in the consolation game, getting past Garrison 43-21. Jaimee WhiteBear led the Troopers with 10.

In the seventh place game, Max players combined to pour in 86 points, easily outdistancing White shield 86-52. Four Cossacks hit double figures in the game. Leading the way were Brianna Johnson and Christina Jacobson. Each had 20. Mikali Talbott popped in 14, and Carly Swanson thew in another 11 for Max. White Shield was led by Amanda Myers with 11.

In Friday action, the Washburn Cardinals advanced to the finals, edging TL-M 48-46 in a nail-biter. Underwood had little problem with Minot Our Redeemers’ winning by 20, 53-33. In consolation action, Garrison eked out a 46-43 victory over a tough White Shield team, 46-43, and Wilton got by Max 48-42.

In the Garrison-White Shield contest, the Troopers were led by Jaimee WhiteBear who drained 15. Elisa Duben stepped up to can 12. Rebecca Dickens led all scorers, scorching the nets for 25. In the Wilton Max contest, the Cossacks were led by Christina Jacobson who poured in 17.
