Change coming in volleyball

The girl’s District 10 volleyball tournament scheduled for next week in Center might be the last tournament played using the District tournament format.
According to Garrison Athletic Director Jason Ermer, schools in Districts 9 and 10 have decided to move to a Super Region tournament format starting next season. The main reason is simple, teams. Specifically, a lack of teams.
Currently, there are only 11 teams in the region, five in District 9 and six in District 10. Each district has its tournament, each running three days.
North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) rules require four teams from each district advance to the regional tournament. That means each district runs three days of tournaments to eliminate a total of three teams.
The Super Region concept is not unique to this region nor is it the first in North Dakota. According to the NDHSAA website, four other Super Regions are already in operation, some with more teams than this region and include half of the 16 districts participating in volleyball.
