Starting next fall, Cedar Perkins will be a Blue Hawk. On Tuesday afternoon, in the gym at Garrison High School, Perkins was signed to Dickinson State University after
a somewhat brief courtship and recruitment. Her parents, Dee and Becky Perkins, Lady Troopers head coach Matt Chase and Blue Hawks head coach Eric Nelson, watched as Perkins put pen to paper and signed on the dotted line. The senior has a plethora of records under her belt: 1,000 points during her high school career; making the All Region
team twice, including the recent accoldate of Senior Athlete of the Year for Region 5; the most points – 45 – in a game; the most three-pointers – nine – in a game, breaking the school record that she had set last year; and the most three-pointers – 71 – in a season. So, it was not exactly a surprise that she would be on the radar of colleges, looking to recruit.
“The biggest thing for us, especially at the college level, is you need girls who can score,” Nelson said. “Obviously, she’s a very good shooter and, offensively, has a lot of skills that
will translate to the next level.” As DSU actively recruited this year, they knew what they were looking for – and Perkins fit the mold.
