The McLean County Girls basketball tournament took place over the weekend as teams and fans gathered in Underwood for basketball action and the best popcorn in all of high-school sports.
Although it was a bumpy ride at times, the Washburn Cardinals triumphed over the Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans in the Championship game on Saturday.
It was the championship match-up that almost wasn’t. The Cardinals narrowly escaped Max in overtime of their second round game, while TL-M-M had to battle back after a bad start to their game against the Comets on Friday. The first place game, as it turned out, wouldn’t be nearly as exciting.
