Boxing returns to White Shield
By STU MERRY
It was so successful last year that it came back for a second round this past Saturday in White Shield. Boxing is back.
Fans packed the White Shield Complex and watched boxers from across the northern plains duke it out in the squared circle. Seventeen bouts took place in weight classes ranging from 75 lbs. to heavyweight.
The featured bouts on the card included a pair of heavyweight battles. Elijah Grady outlasted Tate Connors in one bout, while Andrew Cruz won over Gabriel Yellow Owl in the other heavyweight contest. Connors and Grady fight for the White Shield Boxing Club, while Cruz is from Porcupine, S.D. Yellow Owl represented the Electric City Club out of Great Falls, Mont.
Competing teams also represented Grafton, Rapid City, S.D., MNT (Minot/New Town), Hillsboro and the Lakota Renegades (Standing Rock).
Fred Fox, coach of the White Shield team, said he thought the tournament went well.
