Blue Jays tumble Troopers The Garrison-Max Troopers suffered another setback this past Friday. This time it was at the hands of the Stanley Blue Jays. Both teams came in with identical 0-3 records in the region. But it was the Jays who walked away with a convincing 40-0 victory. The Troopers took the opening drive and moved methodically down the field, getting inside the five-yard line. But a penalty smothered any hope of a score, and failure to convert a fourth and one turned out to be the closest the Troopers would get to hit paydirt. Reflecting on the smoothness of the Troopers’ first drive Head Coach Cory Volk said, "We just clipped right down the field and then we stalled out at the 10." He said the penalty on 4th and 1 proved costly. "Stanley was hard to slow down let alone stop so it was tough for us to have to play catch-up for the rest of the game," he said. Volk said the Achilles’ heel this night was too many penalties and too many blown assignments on offense and defense. "We just never gave ourselves a chance to be in the game after the first drive," Volk bemoaned. He continued. "It was so disappointing because we had played so well at times through the last three weeks. We were sure we’d compete against Stanley and we just never were in the game," he said. "We felt like we had chances to score and chances to stop the Stanley offense and we never really capitalized on those chances. We had a bad practice on Wednesday (unfocused and undisciplined) and it seems like we never really recovered."
