Area schools are split on proposed 3-class proposal

In about a month the North Dakota High School Activities Association will decide whether to turn the state’s two-class system in boys’ and girls’ basketball and volleyball into a three-division plan.
The NDHSAA board of directors presented the new plan to the general assembly earlier this year in Bismarck. Input meetings were held in February in Minot, Valley City, Grand Forks and Dickinson. The plan will be presented to district chairs March 209. A final decision will be announced April 15. If approved, the plan would go into effect in the 2010-11 school year.
Like their statewide counterparts, area schools are divided over the plan. But District 10 schools have gone on record supporting the change.
At the February meeting of the Max School Board Athletic Director Dave McQueen said he didn’t offer an opinion at the meeting in Minot, noting there were a number of questions yet to be answered. He added he didn’t think the change would affect Max.
