Garrison hosts nine schools

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD

Around 165 total shooters from nine different schools competed at the NASP archery tournament Saturday at Garrison High School. The National Archery in the Schools program is for students in fourth grade through graduation. This is the Garrison group's third year practicing and competing, and the first time hosting such a large event.
"It went great, lots of good feedback and comments," event organizer Amber Carter said.
There were two sections of the tournament; bullseye and 3D.
For the bullseye competition, the goal is the highest score.
At least 124 shooter competed in the bulls eye competition.
Each shooter attempts six rounds of five arrows each aiming for the 10 point center ring.
During the 3D rounds, the shooters aimed for the center circle marked on each of the 3D animals.
"We may host again next year, just depends if we can get a weekend that doesn't overlap with another school that's close to us," Carter said.
