Troopers tame Warriors
After a short break to allow the junior varsity teams to hold their annual tournament this past weekend, the Garrison Troopers varsity swings back into action to close out the regular season. Tuesday, the Troopers boys and girls teams traveled to Washburn to take on the Cardinals.
Troopers resilient in victory
Looking at another loss this past Friday night, the Garrison Troopers took a deep breath at half time and overcame a 20-point deficit early in the third quarter to pick up a key District 10 win over the Underwood Comets, 76-74. It was the highest output by the Troopers all season. The game was in Garrison and moved the team’s record to 1-2 in the district, 3-9 overall. Coach Jason Mattheis shared that lackluster play in the first two quarters was the paramount topic at intermission.
Cards cop county crown
The McLean County Girls basketball tournament took place over the weekend as teams and fans gathered in Underwood for basketball action and the best popcorn in all of high-school sports. Although it was a bumpy ride at times, the Washburn Cardinals triumphed over the Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans in the Championship game on Saturday.
Troopers take out Wildcats
Chalk one up in the win column for the Garrison Troopers boys basketball team. The Troopers outlasted Center-Stanton Monday night, defeating the Wildcats 51-45. It was the team’s second win of the season. The Troopers featured a balanced scoring attack. Three players were near or above the 10-point plateau. Kyle Schlehr led the Troop with 13, Andrew Haugen added 10, and Ian MacDonald, the team’s regular scoring leader, chipped in with 9.
Golf club announces simulator league winners
The four-person team of Dave Diffely, Troy Schiffner, Gary Hushka and Mike Wilcox are the winners of the Four Person Simulator Classic at the Garrison Golf Club. The foursome carded a 14 under par, 58.
Troopers come up short
Even though their record stands at 1-6, the Garrison Troopers boys basketball team is making positive strides in the right direction.
Trooper ladies open 1-1
The Garrison Lady Troopers evened their early season record at 1-1 Monday, outlasting the Powers Lake Ranchers 49-41 in Powers Lake.
County tournament goes to Miners
The McLean County boys tournament crown will rest in Beulah for the coming year. The Miners outlasted last year’s county champion Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky 75-63 this past Saturday night to claim the title.
