Water tower gets an ‘aye’

Infrastructure project turned down

The City of Garrison gave a thumbs up Monday to move ahead with plans to construct a new 400,000-gallon above ground water storage facility. But an accompanying infrastructure proposal was given a thumbs down.

While the infrastructure plan was denied, a silver lining might be that more aging cast iron pipe will be replaced in the city.

Brian Julius with Moore Engineering, Minot, was at Monday’s meeting. He updated the council on bids for the two water system upgrades. He presented a letter of recommendation saying the council accepts a bid of $1.49 million for the water tower from Maguire Iron, Inc., Sioux Falls, S.D.

"It’s our recommendation for you to accept this bid, contingent on State Health Department approval," Julius said.
