Wabek School comes back to life
Hunter Andes has no direct connection to the Wabek Consolidated School, but something about the building has always intrigued him.
He grew up in Ryder with his family about three miles southeast of Wabek. And when he heard, the township was going to burn it down in the winter of 2018, he sprang into action.
“I circulated a petition in August of 2018, and 52 percent of the residents in Wabek’s township signed in favor of saving the structure,” Andes said. “Ever since I’ve been young, I’ve always noticed township schools along the highways. I do realize how odd people may think this is, but it’s who I am, and it’s part of why I am where I am today, I remember being around five years old and pointing them out to my parents when we traveled to Bismarck, Watford City, etcetera.”
