With only one loss in the Class B District 1 tournament this past week, the Garrison Titans American Legion team will advance to the North Dakota Class B Legion State Baseball Tournament. The Titans’ fate was sealed with their 8-4 defeat against the Hazen Astros Titans coach David Roedocker has a sense of relief, following the Titans’ victory. “Hazen surprisingly played very well,” he said. “I knew they were good. It was the team I feared the most of our section.” This year, at the district tournament, the Titans went up against the Astros not once, not twice, but three times. Garrison’s first game in the tournament on July 20 was against Hazen; the Titans demolished them 8-6. While Garrison made short work of the Hettinger Bears, 8-1 on July 22, Hazen worked their way through the loser’s bracket, defeating the teams from Washburn, Belfield/South Heart and Hettinger. Then, on July 23, Garrison and Hazen faced off again. This time, Hazen were the victors 0-3, but with that game being Garrison’s first and only loss, they had the opportunity to play against Hazen – and won it 8-4.
