The Garrison Titans ended the North Dakota Class B Legion State Baseball Tournament in fourth place Saturday evening.
In Game 12 of the tournament, the Titans were defeated by the Langdon Red Sox, 3-11. The team finished 27-15 for the season.
“Overall, I was very satisfied with how we played down there,” said Titans coach David Roedocker. “I think the kids were, too.”
Last week, Roedocker described the Red Sox as “pretty solid,” which Roedocker agreed with, post-game.
“They were,” he said. “They ended up only taking third.”
Following their victory over the Titans, the Red Sox were knocked out of the tournament by Oakes, who took second. Oakes then went on to play against and lost to the LaMoure team, who won the tournament.
“It would have been nice to win that last game,” Roedocker noted.
However, Roedocker said he believes that fourth place is the highest the Titans have placed at the state tournament level.
The Titans started the tournament in Game 2 last Thursday, when they faced the Red Sox for the first time. With a 1-3 defeat, the Titans were banished from the winner’s bracket. It was there the Titans climbed back with successive wins against Velva 39ers (8-0) and Renville County Muskrats (7-5).
“Bennett Kamp was amazing,” Roedocker said. “He came in the bottom of the seventh in the Renville County game and struck the next two batters out.”
With runners on second and third, a hit would have potentially tied the game, Roedocker said.
“That (win) probably made the tournament for us,” he added. “Two wins was really nice.”
After those wins, the Titans faced off again with the Red Sox. The Langdon team was defeated early by LaMoure (4-5), but then went on to defeat Carrington (4-3) before facing off against the Titans Saturday.
The Red Sox set the tone for the game Saturday evening, scoring four runs against the Titans in the second inning. The Titans had a single run, courtesy of Huntyrr Anderson, toward the middle of the game. By the seventh inning, the score was 1-11.
