It’s common to believe that the “pizza” was invented by the Italians, but in ancient times in the Middle East they were baking a flat bread derivative with topping similar to a pizza in mud ovens.
But if you are wondering about U.S. pizza history the story is in 1905 Gennaro Lombardi opened the first pizzeria in a thriving Italian-American neighborhood in Trenton, New Jersey called Joe’s Tomato Pies. Their second location in N.J. that opened in 1912 is still in operation today.
