Teacher pay settled

Garrison teachers will receive a 5 percent salary increase plus an extra $500, it was decided at a meeting of educators and board members May 22. Starting teacher pay will be $33,000, up from $31,500 last year.
The additional $500 was offered for two reasons: an attempt to provide an across-the-board increase for all staff and as a way to soften the loss of an out-of-pocket medical reimbursement program.
In another move, there will be a committee formed of administration, teachers and a board member to consider the scheduling of classes, including the amount of student contact time at each school and compensation for teachers who had additional classes.
