Almost half of McLean County residents eligible to be vaccinated have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the North Dakota Department of Health, a total of 48.3%of county residents who are 12 years of age or older – the current age group eligible to receive vaccinations – have received one vaccine dose.
With the exception of Dunn County, where 30.9% of their age-eligible residents have received one dose, the neighboring counties fall in the 42.3% to 49.4% range. However, other counties, such as Dickey County, are higher; there, 70.9% have received at least one dose.
“We certainly want to see that vaccine rate high enough to prevent transmission,” explained Lori Brierley, public information officer for First District Health Unit (FDHU). First District Health Unit provides public health services to seven counties in north central North Dakota, including McLean County, where it has offices in Garrison and Washburn.
