Splitting for better representation

Fort Berthold Reservation could become sub-district in District 4

Legislative redistricting in North Dakota has taken a step further, with the possibility of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation becoming a sub-district of District 4.
At the Sept. 29 meeting of the North Dakota Legislature’s redistricting committee, the committee voted 10-6 to create the sub-districts, separating the Fort Berthold and Turtle Mountain Reservation as sub-districts in their respective Legislative districts. Turtle Mountain is located in District 9.
The creation of sub-districts would give the reservations one legislator each.
Through the proposal, the district would be split into District 4A, which would be the reservation, and District 4B, which would include the rest of the district.
