Speed reduction request declined

The speed limit along North Dakota Highway 37 on the south edge of Garrison will remain 45 mph.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation denied a request by city officials and a group of citizens that it consider the limit reduced to 25 mph in the vicinity of the new Dairy Queen.
The citizens feared, with a new business located across the highway, children’s safety would be at risk.
While the speed will remain the same, alternative steps are being taken. The Garrison Area Improvement Association took a proactive stance, using gaming funds to purchase two new digital electronic speed notification signs. The signs have been ordered and will be placed near the old city landfill on the west edge of Garrison and across from the Soli-Bond building to the east.
The NDDOT OK’d the city installing pedestrian crossing signs near McLean Electric Cooperative and across from Krause’s Market. Mayor Shannon Jeffers said the city received the go ahead for the layout last week.
