Everything a kid could want for lunch with the convenience of a drive-thru for parents.
Garrison Schools food service staff has been a constant for many families during this time of uncertainty.
Eunice Carlson has been the Food Service Director at Bob Callies Elementary for six years, and this is something she never thought she’d have to handle.
But she’s taking it all in stride.
Just like many people she didn’t expect to be working while trying to provide guidance to her three children during e-learning.
“I was just trying to balance how to work with my kids during online studies and still trying to provide this program,” Carlson said. “It’s only a couple hours of actual serving, but obviously we are here earlier prepping and getting things ready.”
She has two employees that work with her, Misty Hagen and Brynanne Lee, who are also parents of young children.
“They are in the same boat too with kids at home,” she added.
It’s been a challenge finding enough grab and go items every week because FEMA is also using these same items in their distribution services.
The lunch program is funded by the “Emergency Summer Food Service Program” due to COVID-19. The school district submits for reimbursment from the State Child Nutrition Program sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction.
