‘Stranger danger’ awareness
‘Stranger danger’ awareness
By CHERYL ODDEN
This past week, area youngsters were introduced to an important subject – stranger danger.
The lesson was a joint effort of the Garrison Library and Garrison ATA Martial Arts.
The hour-long session began with the library’s regularly scheduled story hour. Joyce Suich, a library volunteer, read the book “Once Upon a Dragon,” a tale that includes numerous instances of predators and their prey.
As the story was read, the children listened intently and moved closer to Suich. When the story was finished, Rollie Frothinger and his wife Vickie, ATA instructors, discussed the story with the children. They focused on the instances of stranger danger and warned the youngsters the importance of staying safe.
The session included a brief lesson on ways the children can call attention to situations when they feel threatened by strangers.
