Living centers get creative

The Benedictine Living Center and The Meadows apartment residents are among some of the highest at risk in our community for the COVID19 virus.
As a result the two businesses have taken swift action to protect their health, but they are getting creative along the way.
The bhshealth.org website has a complete list for those that are interested in learning more. Some of the precautionary measures that has been established so far are, staff health screenings upon entering and exiting the buildings as well as restricted visitations, in order to meet local and state health recommended guidelines.
BLCG has also made changes to how the residents enjoy their meals. The website said, “Some of our communities are serving meals in rotating shifts, allowing residents to dine at tables spaced at least six feet apart. Some of our residents choose to take their meals in their apartments or rooms.”
The residents are still able to go outside to sit or walk as long as they remember to keep a six foot distance from the other residents. Loved ones are also able to send care packages for residents to enjoy.
Even though visitations have been restricted, BLCG is encouraging loved ones to stay connected by using other avenues. Some suggestions include phone calls, writing letters, sending emails, video chats, and Facebook.
Staff are working hard to keep the residents active during this restricted time. Karlene Holte of BLCG said that staff are “doing many one-on-one activities with our neighbors in their rooms including but not limited to exercising, praying the rosary and listening to music.
