Headed to State

Big win against Renville Co.

After a whirlwind of strange happenings, the Garrison’s Titans are headed to the state tournament.
“I’m feeling very confident, our boys are coming off a very big win and we’re hoping to ride that momentum wave into the state tournament,” Titans Head Coach Luke Gehring.
Without high school baseball this spring, some of the boys thought that might be the end of their baseball career, but the independent Titans team was ok’d to play.
Fast forward three months and look at them now. They are on the way to the big show.
“It’s a great feeling to finally make it to state after falling short so many times in a row,” teammate Clay Bendickson said.
After a few easy wins comings into sectionals, the team made easy work of Makoti last Tuesday, 9 to 6.
Wednesday they were up against Renville County. The Muskrats came out ahead in the end with a 8 to 4 victory against the Titans. But an appeal overturned the outcome of the game.
“(Renville County) pitched a kid who went over the pitch count,” Titans Head Coach Luke Gehring said. “The tournament manager in Stanley told them that he went over on pitches and they continued to pitch the kid. So, it resulted in an automatic forfeit.”
That dropped Renville County back into a state qualifier game versus Surrey. The Muskrats were able to pull off a hard fought victory and wereback playing Garrison again for the championship game.
With a diving game-ending catch by Dawson Wimer the Titans clenched the win.
