Gieser to be marina concessionaire

Gieser to be marina concessionaire

A familiar face and a familiar business will be in charge of the concession operation at Fort Stevenson Marina this summer. And when next year rolls around, a full-service Garrison Bay Marina will be added, giving Fort Stevenson State Park two fully operational full-service marinas. The new operator is Garrison’s Carey Gieser. He will be doing business as 6-Mile Enterprises, LLC. Gieser owns and operates 6-Mile Bait and Tackle east of Garrison.
Gieser said this year the focus would be on getting the old marina or Fort Stevenson Marina up and operational – the marina that has been high and dry for the past eight years.
Gieser said he is looking forward to the new venture, saying it’s almost like old times – when the marina was hopping with activity. While the ink is barely dry on the 10-year pact with the State Parks and Rec. Department (the contract was signed Monday), Gieser observes that response to a marina at Fort Stevenson once again has been nothing short of phenomenal.
While working on the docks over the past weekend, Gieser said the stream of cars was constant, people checking out what is going on at the state park – and most notably both marinas.
“Interest is abundant,” he said.
Gieser notes that slip rentals at the marina are already at about 85 percent of capacity.
“People are happy about being able to have their boats on the north side of the lake,” he added. “We are getting calls everyday … and the word isn’t even officially out yet.
