Waste Management will be the new garbage service provider for Garrison, beginning Jan. 1.
At Monday’s bid opening, only one proposal was received – that being from Waste Management. The contract is for three years.
The lone bid took city officials off guard as the council had anticipated a bid from the city’s longtime garbage service provider, Ellison Construction. Owner Terry Ellison was not in attendance.
The Waste Management rate per residential household will be $12.50 for 2013. That will be an 18 percent drop from the current rate charged by Ellison. The present rate is $15.33.
The Waste Management bid notes the per household rate will jump to $12.87 Jan. 1, 2014, and to $13.26 Jan. 1, 2015. A fuel surcharge is listed where if diesel fuel goes above $5 per gallon, a 2 percent increase would be added.
Waste Management representative Paul Kalibabky said a 96-gallon container would be provided at no cost to each household.
