Memorandum of understanding set between tribe, food pantry

A memorandum of understanding between the Garrison Area Resource Center and the MHA Nation’s East Segment will help both parties when it comes to food insecurity.
With the memorandum was a check to GARC for $10,000, which will enable the resource center to acquire more food for its food pantry.
“I know GARC has been helping our community and we are thankful for that,” said Fred Fox, a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council and representative for the East Segment. “I think it’s going to be a good thing for all of us.”
It is estimated that between one quarter to one-third of people who come to GARC’s food pantry live in the East Segment. There is definitely a need, as emergency deliveries — deliveries to those who are unable to make it to Garrison because of health or transportation issues — have been made to the White Shield community.
“There’s times when children go without a meal, and that’s not certainly the way it should be,” Fred Fox said. “I’m glad (GARC is) doing something for our community and the Garrison community. Everybody needs the extra help they can get. It means a lot to a lot of us.”
