District ends fiscal year in the clear

As the Garrison School district approaches its fiscal year-end, there was some good news for board members.
At the meeting Monday evening, board members learned that the anticipated carryover would be about $1.5 million, which allowed the board to make $100,000 transfers to the building fund and general fund accounts. The district is expecting to end the fiscal year June 30 with about $1.4 million in funds to carry over to the next year.
The board agreed to Superintendent Nick Klemisch’s recommendation that the district move $100,000 from the general funds to the building funds.
Klemisch said the move shows the school patrons that the district is committed to building improvements. Building funds cannot be used for anything but building improvements.
More good news came when the board learned that the hot lunch program is $90,000 in the black. The board agreed to transfer $85,000 of those funds to the general fund.
Klemisch said the district has no accounts in collection, although some parents are making payments to the school.
