Dickens set to receive restitution

By JILL DENNING GACKLE
A judge ordered Michelle Kallberg, who stole $19,326 from the Dickens Village Festival 11 years ago, to pay $5,000 within 10 days and the remaining restitution in payments.
The judgment came Jan. 16, according to States Attorney Ladd Erickson.
Neither Kallberg nor her attorney appeared at the hearing in Washburn, according to Erickson. He said if the $5,000 isn’t received, a warrant for her arrest will be issued.
Eleven years ago, a theft of $19,326 by Michelle Kallberg, the group’s treasurer, brought the Dickens Village Festival’s reserves to zero and nearly crippled the festival’s future.
Kallberg was charged late last year with not making full restitution and completing other probation requirements.
Kallberg, 44, formerly of Garrison, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with four years suspended in 2007. She was ordered to be on probation for five years after serving her sentence for the Class B felony thefts; that probation ended in 2017.
