Dickens Festival begins Friday
By CHERYL ODDEN
Garrison’s Dickens Village Festival is a special holiday event that is sandwiched between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Following its traditional format, the 7-day festival begins the day after Thanksgiving and takes place over three weekends. This weekend’s event is three days in length and includes the only Sunday of the 2011 Dickens season.
After months of planning, the Dickens Festival Committee has arranged for a variety of entertainment and activities. In addition, SACA (Sakakawea Area Council for the Arts) has prepared an original theatrical production, “A Cratchit Christmas,” to enhance the festival. Six performances are scheduled – one each Friday and Saturday of the festival.
Two special events – a Christmas quilt show and a fruitcake toss are planned for this weekend. The quilt show will be at The Meadows in northeast Garrison. (See times page 12). The show, sponsored by the Piecemakers Quilt Guild, features an assortment of Christmas quilts and other holiday items made by guild members.
