City adjusts building permit fees

Two new categories will be added to the building permit fee structure for the City of Garrison.

Council members received the recommendation for the change from the Police, Public Buildings and Fire Department Committee (Susan Steinwand and Paul Schlichting).

The new categories and fees are $100,000 - $300,000 ($300) and $300,000 and above ($500). Stricken from the breakdown is $100,000 and above.

Other changes include: $30,000 to $50,000 ($40 to $50); $50,000 to $75,000 ($50 to $75), and $75,000 to $100,000 ($75 to $100).

The fee for setback variances is also going up, from $35 to $50. The fee for zoning change for R1, R2 and R3 will be $100, while commercial and industrial will be $300 effective Jan. 1.

A Fire Department Equipment Replacement Fund has been established with oil and gas funds earmarked to go to the account. The city realizes about $20,000 to $25,000 annually from oil and gas income. The fund will be established next year.

In another matter, council members approved certification of special assessments: 14 properties in the city will be assessed more than $3,000 for lawn mowing services, which will be assessed back to property owners and appear on their tax statements.

In other business, the council:

•Approved the municipal budget for 2015. Mills are set at 3.864 compared to 3.275 in 2014.
