The change of venue, from the Garrison City Auditorium to the Garrison Fire Hall, was an appropriate one, given the circumstances.
For Bruce Schreiner to be inducted into the North Dakota Firefighter Museum’s Hall of Fame, it seemed only right that it was done in the place where he has spent so much of his life.
The induction ceremony, which saw Schreiner and Fessenden firefighter Norman Kessler introduced into the Hall of Fame, took place Saturday evening.
The two men join 43 fellow North Dakota firefighters who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 2006.
“The Hall of Fame inductees are elected because of their particular contributions to public safety, education or welfare to their own community and the state,” explained Mike Matteson, president of the North Dakota Firefighters Museum board of directors.
Schreiner joined the Garrison Fire Department in July 1984 and took on the responsibilities as its chief in 1993.
“Under his leadership, the department has replaced virtually every piece of firefighting equipment,” Matteson said. “His talents as a grant writer, his persistence as the lead in fundraising efforts and his knowledge in finance has allowed for these updates.”
