Neighborhood Watch meeting Sept. 25
There’s a strange car parked across the street. Is it someone visiting the neighbors? Or is it someone casing the neighborhood for an easy target?
There’s a young girl walking home from school or the playground. A man is following a short distance behind. Friend, stranger or predator?
Those are just two scenarios that could play out in Garrison any day … any time. How would you handle it?
Being aware of what is going on in the community, making Garrison a safer place to live and raise a family will be the goal of a meeting Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Garrison City Auditorium. A Neighborhood Watch Program is being established.
Fall clean-up is Saturday
Sometimes a good thing bears a repeat performance. That seems to be holding true for the Garrison Chamber of Commerce’s annual citywide clean-up campaign that is held in the spring.
This Saturday, the chamber is sponsoring a fall clean-up day. In conjunction with the event, the City of Garrison is offering city residents free landfill privileges Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Time to strategize
An assisted living center. A CVB director. A fitness center.
Those are just three of the ideas that were only dreamed of five years ago as part of a strategic plan for the community of Garrison. Now, it’s time to plan ahead once more. It’s time to lay out a new strategic plan of action for the future of the community.
Additional water storage proposed
If costs are reasonable, there could be additional water storage for the City of Garrison come next fall.

The battle lines are drawn. Should a 45-year-old state law requiring pharmacies to be majority-owned by a pharmacist remain intact?
Construction begins on The Meadows
Construction of The Meadows, 18-unit assisted living facility in Garrison, was scheduled to begin Wednesday of this week after official ground-breaking at the site Monday afternoon.
Equipment and crews of Cofell Plumbing, Heating & Excavating, Inc., of Bismarck and JEM Construction of Mandan were expected to be on the site for the initial contracts, site utilities and earth work, respectively, at mid-week.
Theft victims speak out
How would it feel to trust an attorney to help you with your finances only to learn that they had helped themselves to your money? That scenario is all too real for a group of people who were clients of Doug Sletten, a long-time Garrison attorney. And, even though Sletten admitted to stealing more than $700,000 from his clients, some think a recommendation by the U.S. attorney’s office of a 41-month prison term is too short.
McLean County to see second wildcat well
Soon there will be two wells. McLean County commissioners heard at their Aug. 5 regular meeting from Lauren Hunze, tax director, a permit has been issued for a second wildcat oil, that will be located in Cremerville Township.
The incoming compliments have far outweighed the complaints from McLean County residents in regard to the snow removal by the county highway department. That is the word from county commissioners during their Feb. 3 meeting.
The Garrison administration staff received 5 or 6 percent increases in salaries, when the school board met Tuesday evening.
