1or 2? Box stores considered
By JILL DENNING GACKLE
Are there two dollar stores sniffing at Garrison? Dollar General announced in December its intentions to build east of Garrison, although a formal zoning request has not yet been received by the City of Garrison.
Now the Planning and Zoning Committee will hear a request from Dave Jeffrey Monday to rezone west of Dairy Queen from highway service to commercial, which would allow another dollar store. He was asked for a comment on the nature of the business and declined. He said he would neither confirm or deny whether it was going to be a dollar store.
But speculation is running strong.
A dozen business people gathered at a Chamber's governmental affairs meeting Monday to discuss the ramifications of potentially two big box stores.
“Even though there is a rumor it's for a Family Dollar store, we don't know if it is,” Bruce Schreiner said. But Schreiner said Jeffrey told people he wanted to bring Family Dollar to Garrison.
