Two-milers take first at regional; on to state

Four more Cougars will be making their way to this year’s State Track Meet this Friday and Saturday, as members of the girls 3200 meter relay team nabbed first place Friday afternoon at the South Central Region Meet in their two-mile event to clinch a berth at the state meet this Friday and Saturday at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
Members of the qualifying team are Emily Eichhorst, Maggie Eng, Mackenzie Snyder and McKenna Wilson.
They’ll be running their event Friday starting at about 5:30 p.m., and it is a final – there are no prelims for the two-mile relay.
The girls’ 400-meter relay team was just edged out of qualifying for state, placing fourth, but narrowly missing qualifying by time by half a second. The top three finishers in each event automatically qualify for state.
"That was kind of heartbreaking," said Cougar coach Lee Weisgarber. "We still could have qualified if we had gotten it down just a little more."
The state meet gets underway Friday at 9:30 a.m. with the Parade of Athletes, followed by the first events, starting at 10:30 a.m.
