The Trojans were in Wilton for a district double header Feb. 2. The results were the girls defeated the Miners 45-34 and the boys won 76-60.
The win for the girls put them in three-way tie for first in the district with a 5-1 record. Underwood and Washburn also have a 5-1 records. The tie breaker will determine the district seeding this week.
The win for the boys puts them as the district leader with 6-0 record and first round bye in the District 10 tournament at Washburn Feb. 14, 15 and 16.
The girls game saw the Trojans race to a 10-0 lead as the Trojans’ defense caused turnovers on the Miners that resulted in points for the Trojans. Even when the Miners got a shot, they were not going in and the Trojans grabbed the rebounds.
Each one of the starters for the Trojans scored in the 10-0 run to start the game.
The Miners got on the score board at the 2:29 mark with a pair of free throws from Heidi Clausen.
A bucket from the Miners Jocelyn Bergquist at the 0:42 cut the Trojans’ lead to 10-4.
Trista Crimmins and Haley Zinke answered with buckets next to make the first quarter score 14-4 Trojans.
The Trojans committed nine fouls the first quarter but only sent the Miners to the free throw line twice.
The second quarter started with the Trojans picking up their tenth foul at the 7:42 mark putting the Miners in the double bonus. MaKayla Koski made one of the two tries to make the score 14-5. From there, the Trojans picked up only five fouls the rest of the game.
Chloe Bayless scored ten of her twelve points in the second quarter and Kennedy Sondrol scored a deuce as the Trojans led at the half, 26-13.
The Trojans took a 36-17 lead in the third quarter after consecutive scores from Tasha Williams, Sabrina Rust and Mariah Sellon.
Buckets from Brianna Wei-senburger and McKenna Wei-senburger late in the quarter made the third quarter score 38-23 Trojans.
