McClusky Dragons are 8-Man Football Conference Champs

Reprinted from November 8, 1956 of The McClusky Gazette For a first in the history of McClusky football the high school Dragons captured Central North Dakota Conference championship in 8-man football last week by defeating Leeds high school 33 to 13. They started the game with a cinch to hold a tie with Towner for top place in the event they might lose to Leeds. By beating Leeds they won sole honors as conference champions. They finished with a 3-0-1 circuit record and 5-0-1 in overall play, making a total of 178 points against 44 for the opposition. The Dragons won 21 first downs against Leeds’ 14 in the final game here. Leeds began the scoring when Franklin Russell passed to Duane Darling for 15 yards, and Russell added the extra point. The Dragons pulled even in the opening period when Reuben Grosz tossed 15 yards to Larry Neff and Gerald Kluck added the extra count. In the second quarter of the game Kluck made an 8-yard run and an extra point to bring McClusky into a 14-7 lead at half-time.
